Optimal Performance Training
Biofeedback and Neurofeedback are receiving an increasing amount of attention from not only researchers, but also from coaches, trainers, military, and athletes of all types and remain largely under utilized. The notion of simply “train harder/eat better” is long recognized as an insufficient training model, and more emphasis is now placed on mental preparedness and enhancement. Biofeedback and Neurofeedback hold tremendous potential for maximizing sports, musical, boardroom, and military performance. The goal is to mobilize endogenous system functions within the brain and body to respond quickly, to operate efficiently, and to perform optimally under a variety of circumstances.
Your ability to perform, regardless of the situation, necessitates a person shift readily between certain attentional states and regulate certain arousal states. At times, a state of sustained focus and concentration is needed, while at others, a state of mental and physical flexibility is necessary, allowing a person to be calm yet able to react quickly to the appropriate stimuli. Bio and Neurofeedback provide a balanced approach to obtaining both states, focus and flexibility.
The Corporate Athlete
As a professional, you are expected to effectively perform under pressure. While optimal performance in such an environment may be difficult, it is an attainable goal with the appropriate training. Corporate “athletes” excel when they can be flexibly shifting between states of more active engagement, focused concentration and attentiveness to more restorative states of information integration and mindfulness. Because these state shifts relate to specific brain frequencies and physiological responses, enhanced bio- and neuro-regulation is a goal of performance training.
Sports, Military, & Other Athletes/Performers
Those competing at amateur and especially professional levels of any sport are set apart by self-awareness, self-regulation, and recovery. If you desire decreased levels of anxiety related to sport, competition, or in “theater”; if you desire more time in the “zone”, better “flow”, improved endurance and accuracy, better focus/concentration without hyper/overfocus; if you desire the ability to induce or reduce energy intensity (shifting states, as we have discussed), Neurofeedback and Biofeedback, especially Heart Rate Variability Training, can help! Efficacy for training continues to extend to sports, military, performing arts, and more.
Energy conservation does not just refer to muscle — it is also brain related!
Peak Performance
This form of training requires a higher level of commitment from the athlete and is usually intended to ‘peak’ for a race or event.
